DIY Hotel Bedding

I have been obsessed with hotel bedding for quite awhile.  Not to mention, my inspiration for a hotel-style bedroom simply calls for it.  But hotel duvet covers, as most all duvet covers… are very pricey.  See here, here, and here.
The solution?  Make my own.
You will need:
1 plain white Queen size duvet cover – Got mine here.
That one is listed as $29.99 but in store mine was $20 on sale!
-Ribbon of your desired thickness.
-Black thread and a needle
-Fabritac
(It’s $9.99 at Joann’s Fabrics — make sure you use a 40% off coupon — making it $6!)
-Heat&Bond Iron on hem – Find it here.
(I started using this on the pillows and then decided to forgo it on the duvet.)
-Safety pins
I already had a lot of things — safety pins, thread and needle, and the Heat&Bond, but if you use your coupons at Michael’s or Joann’s, it should be under $50 for all of your supplies.

I started by laying the duvet cover flat on my bed so I could see exactly where I wanted the ribbon.

Then I safety-pinned the corners down.

If I’m being completely honest, I just eyeballed it, but if you are a perfectionist you should definitely measure out your square.

I safety-pinned it up the sides, and went back and hand sewed each corner.  (Easy stuff, I’m a total rookie when it comes to sewing.)

Then I used the fabri-tac (with a posterboard to keep it from bleeding through) to glue the sides down.

I kept the safety pins on the entire time until I was done.

I am extremely happy with how it turned out and even happier that it was affordable!  Lord knows I have ADD when it comes to decorating.
I hope I have explained it well, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask!
xoxo,
H
